Benefits of Hair Restoration Surgery

  • Permanent and natural-looking hair growth

  • Improved self-confidence and appearance

  • Customisable results based on your goals

  • Minimal downtime (especially with FUE)

  • Can be combined with facial aesthetics for full rejuvenation

What to Expect Post-Surgery

Recovery varies by technique:

  • FUE: Return to work in 3–5 days

  • FUT: Recovery in 7–10 days with stitches removed after 10–14 days

  • Forehead/Scalp Reduction: Bruising and swelling may last 1–2 weeks; results improve as healing progresses

You’ll start seeing new hair growth in 3–4 months, with fuller results in 9–12 months.

Types of Hair Transplants

Hair transplant surgery involves relocating healthy hair follicles from one part of the body (usually the back or sides of the scalp) to areas experiencing thinning or balding. There are two main techniques:

FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation)

Also known as the “strip method,” FUT involves removing a thin strip of scalp from the donor area, then dissecting it into individual follicular units under a microscope. These units are then transplanted into the target area.

  • Best for: Clients needing a high volume of grafts

  • Pros: Cost-effective, efficient for large areas

  • Cons: Linear scar at the donor site, slightly longer recovery

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)

FUE involves extracting individual hair follicles directly from the donor area using a tiny punch tool. These grafts are then implanted one by one into thinning areas.

  • Best for: Clients looking for minimal scarring and shorter recovery

  • Pros: No visible linear scar, quicker healing

  • Cons: Slightly higher cost, may require more sessions for dense coverage

Both FUT and FUE can be used to restore hairlines, crowns, beards, eyebrows, and even chest hair. Your surgeon will recommend the best option based on your hair type, scalp condition, and aesthetic goals.

Forehead Reduction Surgery

Forehead reduction, also known as hairline-lowering surgery, is a procedure designed to reduce the height of a naturally large forehead. This is often a preferred choice for individuals who feel their forehead is disproportionately high due to genetics or hair loss.

  • Procedure: The surgeon removes a strip of skin from the upper forehead and pulls the hairline downward before suturing.

  • Outcome: A lower, more balanced hairline that improves facial proportions

  • Ideal Candidates: Patients with good scalp elasticity and no history of excessive hair loss

This procedure may be performed on its own or combined with a hair transplant for a more natural transition between the original and new hairline.

Scalp Reduction Surgery

Scalp reduction is a lesser-known hair restoration method involving the surgical removal of bald areas of the scalp. The surrounding skin with hair is then stretched to cover the excised area.

  • Procedure: Under anesthesia, the surgeon cuts out sections of bald scalp and repositions the remaining hair-covered skin.

  • Best For: Individuals with crown balding and good scalp flexibility

  • Benefits: Immediate reduction in bald surface area

  • Limitations: Less commonly used today due to the advancement of FUE and FUT

What to Expect Post-Surgery

Recovery varies by technique:

  • FUE: Return to work in 3–5 days

  • FUT: Recovery in 7–10 days with stitches removed after 10–14 days

  • Forehead/Scalp Reduction: Bruising and swelling may last 1–2 weeks; results improve as healing progresses

You’ll start seeing new hair growth in 3–4 months, with fuller results in 9–12 months.
