The correct procedure to apply in terms of Section 17 of the act for a medical treatment permit - This type of visitors permit can be granted for a period of longer than 3 months on the basis that;
the applicant is indeed undergoing medical treatment after providing proof that the medical institution which will deliver the treatment is in good standing and has confirmed that it has received guarantees or payment to its satisfaction that the medical treatment costs will be paid.
It is further required that the medical institution must provide a periodic certification that the foreign national is indeed under medical treatment. South Africa's Embassy or Department of Home Affairs requires this confirmation, in order to secure the costs of your repatriation, should it become necessary. This is refundable upon leaving the country.
As in the case of all other types of visitor’s permits, it is necessary to provide proof of a return ticket or in some instances to make payment of a security deposit. It would also be required to provide proof that the person undergoing medical treatment will have sufficient resources to maintain themselves during the course of their stay on such visitors permit.
